Storage leaders collaborate to facilitate simple SAS deployments by system builders and resellers

PARIS, France —01 February 2006— Seagate (NYSE:STX) and Adaptec (NSDQ:ADPT) have announced a joint EMEA channel programme designed to promote early Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) deployments by system builders and resellers. The SAS Starter Kit, available at a 50% discount off Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), includes two 36GB Seagate Cheetah 15K.4 hard disc drives, an Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI 48300 card and the necessary cabling. The kit is designed to integrate easily into any server environment with a PCI-X host interface, allowing resellers and system builders to experience the benefits of SAS first-hand.

The SAS Starter Kit gives system builders the necessary components to start transitioning from parallel SCSI to SAS today. SAS was conceived as a best-of-breed storage solution, retaining the time-tested SCSI command set of its parallel predecessor and melding it with the most up-to-date serial technologies available. The result is an enterprise-class interface that is simple to integrate and blends four compelling attributes - performance, scalability, compatibility and SCSI integration - to form a cohesive, comprehensive solution. Servers based on SAS have the advantage of reaching breakthrough performance levels with the combination of Adaptec SAS HBAs or RAID controllers and Seagate’s Cheetah 15K.4 hard disc drives.

The SAS Starter Kit is available for a limited period from 1 February. There is a limit of one SAS Starter Kit per system builder or reseller. For further information, visit http://adaptecsas.seagate.com

The Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI 48300 card is an eight-port controller featuring Adaptec HostRAID(tm) an integrated RAID technology that maximizes system performance and uptime. The Adaptec 48300 supports up to eight direct attached drives and up to 128 drives using expander technology. The card offers

RAID levels 0, 1, and 10 as well as 48-bit LBA support for the use of disk drives exceeding 137GB in capacity. The Adaptec 48300 supports Windows(r) 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Linux.

Seagate’s Cheetah 15K.4 enterprise disc drives offer an unprecedented blend of high performance and cost effectiveness. Seek times as fast as 3.3 msec, latencies as low as 2 msec and an increase in data rates of up to 30 percent over the previous generation of Cheetahs provide unrivalled speed. This enables the Cheetah 15K.4 to meet throughput requirements under highly demanding conditions with fewer drives, significantly lowering total cost of ownership.
