CMP Media’s Independent Testing Services Validate Juniper Networks J-series Router Performance

MANHASSET, NY-February 1, 2006 - Independent Testing Services powered by Network Computing LabsTM (ITS) today announced the results of its validation testing of Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) J-Series Services routers. The rigorous testing confirms that the J2300, J4300 and J6300 routers are able to deliver maximum wide area network (WAN) throughput performance with advanced security and services enabled, including firewall filters, network address translation/port translation (NAT/PT), open-shortest-path-first (OSPF), border gateway protocol (BGP) and J-flow.

“Benchmark testing of the Juniper J-Series routers clearly demonstrated consistent performance before and after advanced services were enabled,” said Kevin Cooke, director of Independent Testing Services. “Rather than simply pushing bits over the wire and measuring throughput, we created realistic traffic and conditions using complete HTTP, SMTP and DNS transactions that push the limits of individual services. Juniper’s J-Series routers processed these services and twice the routing tables of the public Internet without a degradation in throughput - performance typically only attained in the largest of carrier-class devices.”

Each J-Series Services Router was tested individually in ITS’ custom-built, isolated test environment from September through November of 2005. The environment was designed to measure the maximum WAN performance of each J-Series Services Router across multiple feature configurations while undergoing extreme routing topology changes and routing table updates. Load testing was conducted with advanced security and networking services enabled with up to 30,000 dynamic OSPF routes and 350,000 BGP routes.

“The dynamic and demanding nature of today’s business environments is requiring IT organizations to adopt more dynamic infrastructure that can enable new business processes that improve employee efficiency, comply with new government regulations, and lower infrastructure costs,” said Adam Conway, senior product manager for Juniper Networks. “Juniper Networks’ broad J-Series router portfolio provides a secure and assured foundation for today’s always on, real-time business applications. Each J-Series router leverages the JUNOS modular operating system to deliver high stability with the flexibility to enable advanced routing, QoS, security, and management policies with unparalleled performance in challenging real-world environments.”

This ITS validation test continues the trend of relevant real-world third party testing. Testing that remains true to technology consumers by providing technology vendors a respected and objective testing service that delivers impartial assessments that go well beyond marketing hype.
