Expands holiday banking convenience for WaMu customers for the first time

SEATTLE -- Chase today announced that nearly 2,000 WaMu branches will be open normal business hours on Presidents Day, Monday, February 16 to make banking more convenient for customers.

This marks the first time that WaMu’s branches will be open on the holiday. Chase branches also will be open, providing WaMu and Chase customers access to a combined total of more than 5,000 branches.

“This is another benefit for millions of customers as WaMu becomes Chase,” said Scott Powell, head of Consumer Banking. “Our bankers will be there to help customers who might have more time for their banking because they have the day off and for customers who want service during a regular work day.” Customers can visit Chase.com or WaMu.com to locate the most convenient branch or ATM.

Chase acquired WaMu’s bank branches on Sept. 25, 2008 and is working to integrate them to expand customer convenience.

By the end of 2009, the customers of 24.5 million checking accounts will be able to conduct their business in more than 5,000 branches from California and Washington to New York and Florida. They already can make withdrawals and check balances with no fee at more than 14,000 Chase and WaMu ATMs.

Chase is the U.S. consumer and commercial banking business of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), which operates more than 5,000 branches and 14,000 ATMs nationally under the Chase and WaMu brands. Chase has 168 million credit cards issued and serves consumers and small businesses through bank branches, ATMs and mortgage offices as well as through relationships with auto dealerships and schools and universities. It also serves more than 30,000 commercial banking clients, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit entities.
