Move Strengthens Business Strategy, Presence in CALA
MÉXICO CITY - Alvio Barrios, President of Nortel* [TSX: NT, OTC: NRTLQ] CALA, announced the appointment of Galib Karim as president and chief executive officer of Nortel Mexico. As such, he will be responsible for leading the company’s business strategy in Mexico, maintaining and building relationships with current and future customers and managing the public affairs in the country.
During his 12 years with Nortel, Karim has held several strategic positions in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, including his last role as director of strategic accounts. Other prior positions include director of company networking for Mexico and Central America and channel executive for Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru (Bay Networks).
Prior to joining the Nortel team, Karim worked for Intersys Mexico, where he held various positions mainly in the sales and distribution channel areas. Galib replaces Pablo Vazquez who has made significant contributions to Nortel’s presence in Mexico as the country CEO for the last five years. Vazquez is leaving Nortel to pursue personal interests.
“We appreciate the effort and hard work that Pablo has put into the company during these five years, especially in Mexico, and we wish him the best of luck,” said Barrios. “We are sure that Galib, with his extensive expertise and experience in the Mexican market, will contribute to drive Nortel’s business in Mexico and Grupo Carso in the years to come. México has been a key market for Nortel since we began operations 27 years ago and has grown significantly since, which shows the commitment and understanding that Nortel has in this market.”
Karim reports directly to Alvio Barrios, president of Nortel for the Caribbean and Latin American region.
