Thinnest, Lightest Full-QWERTY Blackberry Smartphone Now Available From LIME in the Caribbean

Kingston, Jamaica and Waterloo, Canada, ON - LIME, the Caribbean’s only full service telecoms provider, and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, today announced that the new BlackBerry® Curve™ 8900 smartphone, the thinnest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone, is now available from LIME in Jamaica and other countries in the Caribbean region.

Combining an elegant, compact design with an easy-to-use full-QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 boasts a wide range of popular features. The handset’s advanced multimedia capabilities include a 3.2-megapixel camera with image stabilization, digital zoom and flash, the ability to record and play video, a media player, a 3.5mm stereo headset jack and headset, and a hot-swappable microSD/SDHC memory card slot with a 1 GB card included. And with support for memory cards of up to 16GB, customers can carry, capture and enjoy more of their music, pictures and video anywhere they go.

LIME anticipates that the new handset will be a hit with its customers just like the tremendously popular BlackBerry® Bold™ smartphone, which has been a hot seller throughout the Caribbean. “There’s always a lot of excitement when we have a new BlackBerry product. The BlackBerry Bold flew off our shelves and I think the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 is going to be very popular as well,” said LIME’s Executive Vice President Commercial, Mariano Doble.

He added, “We’re seeing a growing demand for smartphones in all of our markets across the Caribbean because customers want very attractive handsets that don’t compromise on functionality. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 delivers in both categories.”

To launch the BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone, LIME has unveiled a sweet deal for the month of February that offers any new prepaid or postpaid BlackBerry service subscriber, 30 days of free data service. “For anyone who hasn’t yet experienced the ease, convenience and fun of a BlackBerry smartphone, LIME has an offer that makes it easier to try it out,” Mr. Doble said.

In addition to a sleek, stylish design, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 has a large, vivid display with the highest resolution available on a BlackBerry smartphone (480x360), as well as a 512MHz next generation processor for fast and responsive performance. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 also has built-in Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g) for extended data coverage and faster web browsing.

Mark Guibert, RIM’s Vice President, Corporate Marketing said: “The new BlackBerry Curve 8900 features a compact and refined design with an impressive looks and feel. It gives you everything you need to stay connected and entertained.”

He added, “With rich multimedia capabilities, exceptional mobile email and messaging, enhanced web browsing, premium phone features and easy access to social networking communities, such as Facebook®, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 helps you make the most of a mobile lifestyle that spans beyond normal business hours.”

Like all BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 gives users the industry’s leading mobile messaging solution. It works with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, which enables advanced security and IT administration within IBM® Lotus® Domino®, Microsoft® Exchange and Novell® GroupWise® environments, as well as BlackBerry® Professional Software for small businesses. It also works with BlackBerry® Internet Service, which gives users access to up to 10 supported work or personal email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts), and the BlackBerry® Unite! software for SOHO and home users.
