GEICO urges drivers to form safe game plans for travel on Super Bowl Sunday

WASHINGTON, D.C.– As football fans celebrate the biggest game of the year, GEICO urges drivers to keep it safe on Super Bowl Sunday.

Don’t let your fun spill over into your driving time. GEICO, along with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), offers some ways to safely cheer on your favorite team:

* As an enthusiastic spectator, you don’t want to miss a second of the big game, but leave the rushing to the professionals. Make sure to leave plenty of time to avoid hurrying, which can lead to reckless driving decisions, or worse, auto accidents. If you will be driving in the snow, it might helpful to read over our winter driving tips before you head out.
* If you’re celebrating at a party, restaurant, or bar, drink responsibly. Decide on a designated driver ahead of time to get everyone home, or arrange another method of transportation such as a cab, bus, or metro.
* If you are hosting a party with alcohol, WRAP suggests not serving anyone who appears to be impaired. Make sure you are serving food and don’t allow impaired guests to get behind the wheel.
* Be aware that there could be impaired drivers on the road; take every precaution and drive slowly and wear your seatbelt.

Enjoy the big game in a safe way; you don’t have to be reckless when cheering on your favorite team.
