With NetSuite, Medalcraft Mint Modernizes Traditional Manufacturing and Ordering Processes to Boost Efficiency and Cut Costs

SAN MATEO, Calif. — NetSuite Inc. (NYSE: N), a leading vendor of on-demand, integrated business management software suites for mid-market enterprises and divisions of large companies, today announced that Medalcraft Mint Inc., makers of the official 2009 Presidential Inaugural Medallion for President Barack Obama, has implemented NetSuite to manage its end-to-end business operations. Thanks to NetSuite, Medalcraft has modernized its enterprise technology platform and eliminated costly, aging systems while streamlining its ordering process and manufacturing business.

NetSuite has enabled Medalcraft to automate the entire life cycle of its business in one single integrated SaaS solution—from managing its online presence and governing its sales and customer service processes, to managing custom orders and configurations, guiding production, fulfilling and shipping orders, and controlling financial operations.

Medalcraft Replaces Legacy AS/400 Platform with NetSuite
For more than 60 years, Medalcraft Mint has manufactured countless die-struck commemorative medals, trophies, and other collectibles and awards. Among its high-profile clients is the Presidential Inauguration Committee, which selected Medalcraft as the producers of the official Presidential Inaugural Medallion for Barack Obama. The company enjoyed the same honor for former President George W. Bush. When new ownership acquired the company in mid-2007, they decided to take action to ensure that the company’s ability to reach prestigious clients would not be overshadowed by an aging, inefficient business operating platform.

Medalcraft’s systems ran on a legacy AS/400 platform that had become difficult to customize and expensive for a small company to maintain. Custom orders had to be processed through a complex configurator resulting in tens of thousands of separate items. With this legacy system becoming more difficult and costly to maintain, the company decided to make a bold change, adopting a modern on-demand platform in NetSuite.

With NetSuite, Medalcraft’s customer service representatives are able to process both in-stock and custom orders more quickly, using NetSuite’s powerful Kits and Assemblies module to define unique items. Management has real-time visibility into the company’s day-to-day activities through customizable NetSuite dashboards, and integration technology from NetSuite partner OzLink provides seamless shipping integration with all four of the company’s carriers.

The company has expressed that it plans to expand its Web presence using NetSuite’s e-commerce capabilities: traditionally, Medalcraft has taken phone orders from a static catalog, or engaged one-on-one with customers for custom designs. The company’s has indicated that its vision is to transition more of its common stock products to e-commerce, giving phone representatives more time to work closely with customers on custom designs.

Medalcraft CTO Michael Dailey looks forward to expanding the company’s services and buying audience in the months and years to come. “Turning to NetSuite has given us the flexibility we need to modernize our business and make it flexible enough to serve all of our customers,” he said. “I’m excited by how easy it is to customize and extend NetSuite to be even more appropriate for our business activities.”
