BASF wins Intranet Design Award 2009
* Nielsen Norman selects best intranet sites
* BASF IT Services responsible for technological implementation of new portal
Ludwigshafen , Germany – BASF has won the Nielsen Norman Group Intranet Design Award for its group-wide intranet portal BASF.net. Each year, the U.S. consulting company presents the award for the world’s top 10 intranet sites. The BASF portal impressed the selection committee in particular with the successful implementation of a variety of Web 2.0 features. The term Web 2.0 refers to the changed utilization and perception of the intranet. BASF.net enhances user experience to the benefit of the global brand BASF – The Chemical Company.
“The BASF.net designers are up to date. It shows in the effective implementation of a large number of Web 2.0 features,” said group principal Jakob Nielsen, summarizing the reasons for the decision.
For the first time in the online history of BASF, the company has an intranet start page that is globally harmonized in terms of design and technology, while content is tailored to suit individual user requirements. Portal developers therefore placed particular emphasis on personalization features. The intranet provides regional and local information as well as global corporate news.
A team of experts from the BASF subsidiary BASF IT Services were responsible for technical implementation using SAP NetWeaver. The content management system was chosen with a convenient, user-friendly editorial environment in mind. Editing content through existing editor screens ensures a consistent corporate presentation. The Cologne based Pixelpark agency designed the portal and developed Group-wide style guides.
The new BASF Group intranet portal is available to employees at more than 300 sites across the globe. An average of 47,000 employees now use the intranet every day.
