RF-7800M-MP Radio Enables Secure, Ad-Hoc Mobile Networking Through Advanced Waveforms and Intelligent Protocols

ROCHESTER, NY — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded two orders for tactical radio equipment totaling over $5 million from the Estonian Ministry of Defense (MOD). The orders include the new Falcon III RF-7800M-MP multiband high-capacity data radio as well as other Harris high-performance tactical communications systems.

Planned for use primarily in vehicle-based applications, the RF-7800M-MP radio will provide Estonian forces with the ability to achieve a highly mobile tactical network on the frontlines with high bandwidth connectivity to the military’s larger network-centric backbone. “The Estonian Land Forces require modern communications for homeland defense and international operations.” said Lieutenant Colonel Artur Suzik. “The RF-7800M-MP provides the high speed, secure networking required to function effectively in these demanding environments.”

Designed for flexibility and portability, while providing critical next-generation capability, the RF-7800M-MP is a single-channel, software-defined radio that runs both narrowband and wideband waveforms in the smallest and lightest form factor available to the war fighter today. The RF-7800M-MP provides secure voice and high-speed networked data services at on-air rates up to 5 Mbps over an extended frequency range of 30 MHz to 2 GHz — a significant increase over competing products.

The RF-7800M-MP provides secure IP data to the tactical Internet utilizing Harris Corporation’s Advanced Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2). The radio is designed to the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) version 2.2, which enables the loading of future waveforms and ensures software upgradeability. The narrowband waveform capability assures interoperability with existing and future VHF and UHF combat net radios including the Harris RF-5800 series of combat net radios.

“Harris is honored to have been selected to provide this solution to the Estonian MOD and help further their plans for a more effective battlefield communication architecture,” said Dana Mehnert, President, Harris RF Communications. “The secure, high-speed, wideband capability of the RF-7800M-MP will greatly expand the field-based war fighter’s ability to access and communicate tactical data while establishing a more robust connection with upper echelons and overall enhanced situational awareness.”
