Unisys Named Master Systems Integrator For Delhi International Airport Project

GMR selects Unisys to help Delhi airport prepare for 2010 Commonwealth Games

BLUE BELL, Pa. – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) announced its Unisys India subsidiary has been named master systems integrator in support of the infrastructure project to modernise and restructure Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), including work on the airport’s new Terminal 3. Terminal 3 will provide much needed additional capacity to Delhi during the 2010 Commonwealth Games as well as serve the more than 34 million passengers per year anticipated by DIAL.

Unisys has been awarded two contracts: the master systems integration agreement to work with GMR, the infrastructure leader at DIAL, and a subcontracted systems integration agreement with Larsen & Toubro Limited, the prime contractor for the project.

As part of the project, Unisys will design, test and commission the overall integration of various disparate airport systems that supply information to the airport community, including airlines, ground handlers, and government agencies such as Immigration and Customs and franchise operators. Unisys will also assist DIAL in defining future operational processes to support its role as a competitive hub airport in the region.

The Indian civil aviation industry has doubled in size over the past four years and is expected to double again by 2010 (1), the year of the Commonwealth Games. Delhi has the country’s busiest international airport in terms of the number of daily flights, with an average of 680 flights landing each day (2).

Unisys has had success in other large airport systems integration projects. Most recently, Unisys played a key role in the award-winning opening of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA), the world’s largest terminal building. The Beijing Airport Terminal 3 project provided the critical transportation infrastructure needed by Beijing to host the 2008 Olympic Summer Games and will enable BCIA to handle 76 million passengers and 580,000 flights a year with peak hour handling over 124 flights per hour by 2015. BCIA has recognized Unisys as a major contributor to the airport’s flawless operation.

Prabhakararao Indana, CEO-Airport Development, DIAL said, “We are happy to be associated with Unisys, which helps us take a step closer to our dream and endeavor of providing world class facilities to our passengers.”

Kumar Prabhas, managing director of Unisys India Private Limited said, “This important engagement with DIAL demonstrates Unisys dedication to being a strategic partner for airport infrastructure projects in India and elsewhere.

“Airports and transportation infrastructure projects are an important focus area for Unisys globally. Our systems process over 30 percent of the world’s airline passengers and many of the world’s busiest airports use our solutions for core functions including check-in, boarding control, security and operations management,” he said.

Olivier Houri, president and general manager, Global Transportation, Unisys, said, “Unisys will draw on its experience as a technology partner at Beijing Capital and Guangzhou Baiyun airports - the two busiest airports in China. We helped ensure that the Beijing Airport was ready in time for the increased traffic for the Beijing Olympics.

“The tremendous growth in India’s transportation and logistics industries holds huge potential and we are confident that with DIAL we will repeat the success that has established Unisys as a leading provider of solutions and technology for China’s aviation industry,” Houri added.
