Attendees from around the World Flock to London and Frankfurt to Join Leading Manufacturers, Analysts and PLM Suppliers Discussing Real-World Examples of Value, Productivity and Innovation Made Possible through Widely-Adopted JT Data Format

Thursday, January 26, 2006, PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that the soaring worldwide interest in the JT data format (JT) generated capacity attendance at its Innovation is a Team Sport (ITS) seminars held last week in London and Frankfurt.
Attendees of the events – representing more than 100 companies from all over Europe – heard real-world examples from leading manufacturers who have experienced significant business value by employing JT – the PLM industry’s most widely adopted 3D data format – to enable product visualization, supplier collaboration and data interoperability. These themes demonstrated broad cross-industry appeal, attracting representatives from diverse manufacturing sectors such as automotive, aerospace, machinery, consumer packaged goods, furniture and medical devices.
One of the companies attending the London event, Kesslers International Ltd., is Europe’s leading specialist designer and manufacturer of Point of Purchase display and merchandising. After hearing presentations from various JT users and PLM industry experts, the company’s George Kessler CBE, Group Deputy Chairman, saw clear application to his business.
“JT is certainly a tool that we can use to substantially improve our business processes,” said Kessler. “It could revolutionise our instruction leaflets and make them much clearer for the end users of our products. JT will also form a major part of our web based spare part ordering system and will clearly make data sharing more effective with suppliers.”
Industry leaders share business benefits of JT
Executives from Ford, Siemens, Adobe and Microsoft joined representatives from UGS and industry analyst firm AberdeenGroup to deliver a diverse set of presentations detailing JT’s tangible business benefits along with the market research to support the compelling business opportunity that can be realized through the innovation and collaboration that JT enables.
“Our research indicates that employing enhanced collaboration technologies in product development can have a significant impact on a company’s ability to innovate and meet their product development targets,” said Jim Brown, VP Global Product Innovation & Engineering Research, AberdeenGroup. “The real world stories presented at the ITS events offered excellent examples of how leading manufacturers are leveraging open design collaboration capabilities such as JT technology to streamline communication throughout their supply chains and bring innovative products to market faster.”
The ITS events are part of series of seminars organized by UGS to provide a forum for sharing and discussing the business reasons behind the expanding global interest and rapid worldwide adoption of JT. The first event, held last month in Detroit, received overwhelming support from presenters and attendees for establishing JT as the common language for PLM.
“As the capacity crowds at last week’s events point out, the worldwide interest in JT’s ability to enhance and facilitate product innovation continues to accelerate,” said Chris Kelley, vice president Partner and Platform Marketing, UGS. “To further support this global awareness, UGS will continue to help share the stories of how real-world manufacturers are leveraging JT so that the entire global manufacturing industry can benefit and transform their process of innovation.”
