HOUSTON -- January 25, 2006, DHL Employees Work Closely With Start-Up Businesses at DHL Cares Day

Houston-area staff of DHL, the world’s leading global express delivery and logistics company, will contribute their time and energies to provide hands-on training in the area of basic selling skills to selected area micro-entrepreneurs as part of DHL Cares Day on January 25 in Houston.

The program is part of the DHL Advancing Micro-Entrepreneurs business development partnership with the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO), the national micro-enterprise development trade and membership association. Through the DHL Advancing Micro-Entrepreneurs program, DHL to date has provided financial grants and in-kind professional services to 10 micro-enterprises in the Houston area in coordination with ACCION Texas, an AEO partner organization and the state’s largest non-profit small business loan fund.

“Learning basic business skills can really make the difference for some of these small companies eager to make a name for themselves in the marketplace and succeed,” said Kelly Keogh, director of corporate citizenship, DHL. “With DHL Cares Day, we give our seasoned professionals an opportunity to share their expertise with micro-entrepreneurs in providing the foundation for continued growth.”

DHL is now in its second year of its DHL Advancing Micro-Entrepreneurs partnership with the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO), the national trade and membership association representing micro-enterprise development programs to promote the successful growth of small business led by low- to moderate-income American entrepreneurs.

“Providing the know-how helps small businesses get out of the gate with a distinct advantage,” said Janie Barrera, president and CEO of ACCION Texas. "Our partnership with DHL in advancing micro-entrepreneurs offers the best opportunity to create an environment of success for our clients. We anticipate that this DHL Cares Day session where clients learn about networking to increase visibility, the use of business references and how to talk to decision makers will be especially beneficial for participants.?
