Large North American Sports Broadcaster Upgrades High-Capacity Production Network with Net Insight’s Nimbra Platform

The Nimbra 688 doubles traffic capabilities for compressed and uncompressed live high-definition video

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Net Insight, leading developer of efficient and scalable optical transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, today announced an upgrade order from one of North America’s largest sports broadcasters to incorporate the Nimbra 688 into its high-traffic production network. This is the first Nimbra 688 deployment in the U.S. since the product became available in September 2008.

To manage heavy, high-bandwidth traffic between its production studios, this customer has added the Nimbra 688 to the most intensive traffic zones on its production network. With the Net Insight platform upgrade, the customer will continue to lead sports broadcast innovation by transporting uncompressed and compressed HD video as well as compressed standard definition (SD) video at the highest quality. In addition, the Nimbra 680 switches previously used on the network will be reallocated to alternate network positions to capitalize on the unmatched bandwidth utilization and guaranteed QoS found in all Nimbra solutions.

The Nimbra 688 platform is based on the Nimbra 600 series, a high-capacity multiservice switch with sub Mbps switching granularity for all services. Nimbra 688 offers twice the access and trunk port count of Net Insight´s Nimbra 680, increasing the amount of traffic that can be handled by professional media networks. The next-generation Nimbra 688 is especially aimed at fulfilling the highest demands in terms of capacity and availability of the professional media industry and telco and CATV / IPTV networks.

The equipment is delivered in the fourth quarter 2008.
