WEBWIRE

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ (December 17, 2008) - West Point Thoroughbreds, a worldwide leader in thoroughbred partnerships, will send Jim Dandy(G2) winner, and Preakness runner-up Macho Again to the starting gate for his return to the races this Saturday December 20th in the $60,000 Woodchopper Stakes at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. It will be his first start since his second-place finish in the Super Derby(G2) on September 20th.

West Point Thoroughbreds has decided to get the big gray colt ready for his four-year-old racing campaign with this one mile stakes race on the turf. It will be Macho Again’s first race on the grass. “We’re going to try him on the turf and see how it goes,” said West Point Thoroughbreds’ President Terry Finley. “We gave him a few months off, and this allows us to get a race under his belt as we look forward to some of the bigger races on the calendar in the spring.”

Macho Again’s three-year-old season was highlighted by wins in the Grade II Jim Dandy at Saratoga Race Course and the Derby Trial Stakes at Churchill Downs. He also grabbed headlines when he finished second behind Big Brown in the Preakness Stakes.

A four-year-old son of Macho Uno, Macho Again has earned over 700 thousand dollars during his brief career thus far. He was purchased for $150,000 by bloodstock agent Buzz Chace, on behalf of West Point Thoroughbreds, at the 2006 OBS yearling sales in February.
