Stamford, CT – In today’s economy, nonprofit organizations are facing considerable challenges as they manage increased demand for services. On December 10, 2008, Citi will host a Nonprofit Day focused on helping nonprofits learn how to fundraise during these tough economic times. Over 70 Connecticut-based nonprofit organizations, offering programs that range from youth services to community development, will be in attendance.

Citi is partnering with Cause Effective, a New York City-based organization that helps nonprofits become more efficient, strategic and profitable, to host its “Raising Friends … Raising Funds” workshop. The experts at Cause Effective will give advice to nonprofits on how to fundraise in a challenging economy. Dr. David Garvey, Director for the University of Connecticut’s Nonprofit Leadership Program, will deliver a special talk on the impact of retirement among senior leadership in the nonprofit sector, and how that is changing the landscape of the sector overall. Dr. Garvey will also focus on both the challenges and opportunities for fundraising in this current economic environment.

“Citi proudly supports Nonprofit Days in collaboration with Cause Effective as this initiative addresses critical issues that many nonprofits are experiencing today,” said Patricia Nulty, vice president, Connecticut Area Director, Citibank. “At Citi, we work closely with local organizations to develop innovative and effective strategies for serving our local communities. We thank Cause Effective for sharing our commitment to helping make communities better because we are there.”

“During these tough economic times, fundraising will be crucial to many nonprofits as they continue to provide services in Stamford and across Connecticut,” said Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy. “I am grateful to Citi for spearheading Connecticut Nonprofit Day, and hope that the initiative will help give nonprofits the tools they need to allow for the continuation of essential services despite the economic downturn.”

Citi and the Citi Foundation support Nonprofit Days across the country in partnership with the Alliance for Nonprofit Management and its local member organizations that provide technical assistance to nonprofits. Citi’s Nonprofit Days offer free trainings, workshops, and networking opportunities to nonprofit leaders in order to help them strengthen the capacity of their organizations. Additionally, the program offers mini-courses to nonprofits serving low- and moderate-income communities in such topics as fundraising and financial sustainability, board development, financial management, and cultural competency.
