Secure Computing’s Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance Named a ’Product of the Year’ By Information Security Magazine

WEBWIRE

SAN JOSE, CA -- 12/29/2004 -- Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ:SCUR), the experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks(TM), today announced that the company’s Sidewinder G2(R) Security Appliance was named by Information Security magazine a Product of the Year for 2004. The Sidewinder G2 received the bronze award in the network firewall category.

The Products of the Year awards are based on a comprehensive survey, conducted by Information Security and its research partner, The InfoPro. Survey results were based on feedback from 416 infosecurity professionals, in 273 companies, who actually use the products. Among the 1,239 products evaluated by these security managers, 39 products in 13 categories were singled out as the best commercial infosecurity products of 2004.

Criteria by which the products were evaluated included vendor brand or reputation, quality of product, delivery of product as promised, quality of technical support, technical innovation, strategic vision, competitive positioning of the product, quality of the sales team, interoperability and ease of doing business with the vendor.

“We are especially pleased to receive this award because the judges are the professional security managers we put so much effort into working with to ensure that the firewall and secure operating system, Secure OS(R), at the heart of Sidewinder G2 makes it the world’s most secure security appliance,” said Steve Miller, vice president, of worldwide marketing for Secure Computing. “There has never been a CERT advisory for the Sidewinder G2, and the Sidewinder has never been hacked, even after we offered a $100,000 reward to any hacker who could. That’s why security professionals from the world’s most sensitive organizations use our Sidewinder G2 Security Appliances at the perimeter of their networks.”

The Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance is the most comprehensive gateway security appliance in the world. It protects your applications and networks against the latest threats at gigabit speeds -- while reducing the complexity of managing a total perimeter security solution. These security functions include our Application Defenses(TM) firewall with optional embedded anti-virus, anti-spam, traffic anomaly detection, IDS/IPS, and other critical protective features.
