UTM, IDP, SSL Combined with Optimized Application Delivery for Global Office and Retail Network

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that PUMA AG, the global sport-lifestyle company, has selected its application acceleration and network protection technologies to optimize the performance and security of its global network infrastructure. The Juniper Networks WXC application acceleration platform has been deployed to accelerate the performance of key applications across the network, and the Juniper Networks Secure Services Gateway (SSG) with UTM, Secure Access (SA) SSL VPN and Juniper Networks Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) platforms create a layered defense against vulnerabilities for LAN/WAN-based and remote users. PUMA’s high-performance network infrastructure includes its major IT hubs in Europe, North America and Asia, plus more than 500 retail outlets and offices globally.

“PUMA’s challenge is to control costs while simultaneously improving the network’s performance and security, and to ensure future scalability in line with our business demands,” said Kurt Walther, Global IT Director, PUMA AG. “Juniper’s WXC has enabled us to accelerate the performance of key applications by up to eight times. By performing 80% compression, the WXC also helps us to better use and provision the existing bandwidth, while the security deployment helps to ensure data security within and between our sites without compromising network performance. Juniper’s technology gives PUMA a high-performance network infrastructure for the long-term.”

The Juniper Networks WXC platform is used by PUMA to improve Wide-Area Network (WAN) performance of numerous mission-critical applications, including CIFS, Lotus Notes and Web Applications. The company can now rely on fast and consistent application response times, enhancing customer service in main locations, increased staff productivity and cutting operational costs. The WXC platforms provide broad application support for Web-based, client-server, custom software, voice, and video applications, and can deliver the performance and scale to support large application deployments in geographically distributed areas. A comprehensive management system fully automates provisioning tasks and centrally monitors and troubleshoots application and network performance to deliver applications exactly as intended. WXC platforms can be installed and configured in as little as 10 minutes using a Web-based wizard.

The SSG integrated firewall/VPN and intrusion prevention devices provide PUMA with fast throughput plus best-in-class UTM capability to protect against a wide range of network-borne attacks such as viruses, worms, trojans and malware. The standalone IDP appliances provide a robust, scalable layer of protection for areas of the network with high throughput. The SA SSL VPN platforms provide web-based secure access for remote and mobile users (and which has become PUMA’s standard platform for secure remote-access).

“Enterprises such as PUMA rely upon the network to deliver competitive advantage, which means it needs to be able to deliver fast, reliable application response across the network,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. “Juniper’s technology enables high-performance networking, which delivers speed, reliability and security at scale without compromise.”

The PUMA deployment has been completed with a local Juniper Networks J-Partner, Kroha und Heinze GmbH. For more information please visit www.kroha-heinze.de.
