WEBWIRE

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Jan 23, 2006 Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced it will host a webcast discussing how security intelligence can be used to more effectively protect the enterprise environment. The one-hour webcast, titled “Putting Security Intelligence at Your Fingertips: DeepSight Early Warning Services Help You Mitigate Threats and Protect Your Network,” will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 9 a.m. PST. Attendees can register online.

Dee Liebenstein, Symantec group product manager, and Susan Van Ness, Symantec product marketing director, will lead the webcast. The presentation is for CIOs, CISOs, and all IT and security professionals who are involved in tracking and responding to security threats and prioritizing resources for protection planning.

During the presentation attendees will learn how their businesses can use Symantec DeepSight Early Warning Services for advance notice of security threats, along with access to timely, detailed vulnerability and attack activity analysis with risk mitigation strategies. The webcast will include topics such as:

-- The challenges of responding to new vulnerabilities, increased attacks, and evolving threats.

-- The importance of getting real-time information on the global security landscape in order to implement mitigations or respond to incidents.

-- How to use actionable intelligence that covers the complete threat lifecycle to prioritize IT resources and better protect critical information assets.

-- How the inclusion of spyware and adware alerts to early warning information enables organizations to further reduce their risk and speed response, resulting in reduced cost and impact.

“Enterprise IT personnel are constantly reacting to a threat environment that continues to evolve and increase in complexity,” said Liebenstein. “At the same time, with an increase of more than 40 percent in the number of newly reported vulnerabilities in 2005, it continues to be extremely challenging for organizations to stay on top of the latest vulnerabilities and threats and respond appropriately to protect IT assets.”

Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System provides actionable intelligence throughout the threat lifecycle, delivering personalized alerts on vulnerabilities, malicious code, and other security risks such as spyware, as well as global summaries and trending. Symantec DeepSight Alert Services leverages the world’s largest vulnerability database to deliver personalized alerts on new vulnerabilities, malicious code, spyware, and adware.
