Virtually unlimited scalability for the same cost as an SDH leased line

ADVA Optical Networking announced today that inexio, a service provider in southwestern Germany, has deployed DWDM technology (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) based on the ADVA FSP 3000 platform. As a result, inexio has dramatically increased the transmission capacity of its telecommunications backbone and is now equipped with a state-of-the-art Ethernet and MPLS-based network capable of easily keeping pace with all customer requirements.

The cost for implementation and operation of the new network is barely more than that of the previously leased and managed SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) connection, while the transmission capacity has grown from only 2.5Gbit/s to 320Gbit/s. As a further benefit, the ADVA Optical Networking platform was implemented quickly and easily, and is now being operated hassle-free by the inexio staff after just a few days of training.

inexio KGaA operates its own next-generation optical fiber-based telecommunications network in southwestern Germany, Luxemburg and eastern France. The network spans a total length of approximately 1,000 km and has nodes in major cities in southwestern Germany between Frankfurt/Main, Karlsruhe and Luxemburg. Additionally, inexio currently operates three data centers in that same region in Saarlouis, Luxemburg and Kaiserslautern.

Established in 2007, the startup has already acquired a strong customer base of more than 150 companies from different branches of industry that includes Villeroy & Boch, Boehringer Ingelheim, Juris GmbH and SES ASTRA. The ADVA FSP 3000 provides inexio with an exceptionally scalable, cost-efficient platform for all the services and protocols the enterprise supports, ranging from a variety of different DSL services, VoIP and Ethernet services to enterprise services requiring the iSCSI and Fibre Channel protocols.

“The future belongs to innovative Ethernet- and MPLS-based networks. We are firmly convinced of that, and our own next-generation network is a prime example,” said David Zimmer, general partner of inexio. “With ADVA Optical Networking’s DWDM solution, we are now able to quickly and efficiently meet our customers’ growing needs for more bandwidth. What’s better, our costs for the implementation and operation of the new network come to hardly more than those for the managed STM-16 lines we used to lease. ADVA Optical Networking has proven to be an extremely reliable, flexible partner. We are already planning a number of new network segments that will be deployed based on ADVA Optical Networking’s solutions.”

“inexio represents a new generation of alternative business carriers that opts for future-proof technologies and is very successful because of their choices,” said Christian Cehovin, vice president, sales for Central & Eastern Europe at ADVA Optical Networking. “The use of DWDM technology based on the ADVA FSP 3000 guarantees extreme scalability, reliability and efficient operation, regardless of the applications and protocols deployed. inexio customers benefit tremendously as a result.”
