Bells Quilt Pattern is Featured in Video on QuiltBlockLibrary.com
QuiltBlockLibrary.com offers free quilt pattern and new video showing how to sew the Bells Quilt Block, a traditional patchwork 9 patch quilt block.
Penny Halgren, master quilt block maker, turned to the traditional patchwork quilt block with 4 bells in the corners to ring in the December holidays.
“More than any other time of year, December brings bells. Whether they are the bell-ringers at the malls or grocery stores, or in churches playing beautiful Christmas music, bells are heard all around town during December,” remarked Halgren.
The Bells Quilt Block is a quilt pattern that offers something a little more interesting than just sewing straight seams. Each of the bells has two curved pieces that need to be sewn. In addition, there is the circle that represents the head of the tongue of the bell, and the line of embroidery indicating the axis of the tongue.
Because of the extra steps in this block, the video is divided into two parts – one that demonstrates how to sew the yo-yos for the head of the tongue, and the other that shows how to do the embroidery. Once those steps are complete, sewing the remainder of the block is just like sewing any other 9 patch.
Using the tips and shortcut techniques which Halgren demonstrates in her video, making this block becomes very easy. Quilt block patterns are made by dividing the block into a grid with the same number of patches across as there are up and down.
QuiltBlockLibrary.com is a resource for hundreds of quilt block patterns. Each pattern comes in several different sizes. For example, most 9 patch quilt blocks are available with full size templates in 9, 12, and 18 inch block patterns.
