Xtify, Inc. launched the beta version of its location based platform to software developers today. Xtify’s revolutionary service enables developers to ascertain the location of their users independently of the wireless carriers.

NEW YORK, NY – Xtify (www.xtify.com) becomes the first of its kind solution to offer developers a free webservice for locating people in real time. Developers can program into Xtify’s API and incorporate location into their existing website without having to build their own downloadable applications. Because of Xtify, websites are no longer reliant on wireless carriers to get the location of their users.

“We don’t believe it’s feasible for every application developer to re-build their websites or mobile websites into downloadable programs that access location,” says Andrew Weinreich, CEO of Xtify. “We also think that in order for location to be ubiquitous it needs to be offered outside of the wireless carriers.”
How it works

At no charge, Xtify licenses a thin client that users download to their phone. Once installed, the client extracts the location of the handset and pushes that location to Xtify’s servers on a periodic basis. Any website can write to Xtify’s API to access the location of their participating users and reflect that location in content displayed to that user. The service has considerable advantages over grabbing location out of a browser. Xtify has the ability to know where users are throughout the day, and whether or not they are surfing the Internet at any given time.

In all instances users must opt–in to each service for Xtify location sharing. Users always choose with whom and when their location is shared.

Location based mobile dating company, MeetMoi (www.meetmoi.com) and social network, SeeMyWhere (www.seemywhere.com) have already implemented the Xtify technology.

Integration for a typical website takes less than a day.

Xtify’s mission is to location enable any website without the involvement of the wireless carriers and at no charge. Based in New York and backed by venture capital firms Acadia Woods Partners and ETF Venture Funds, Xtify provides a location based services platform to developers. It works worldwide on most BlackBerry, Android, Windows and Symbian devices. For more information, please visit www.xtify.com.
