“The IBOAI and Independent Business Owners everywhere are proud to give back to their communities providing hope and opportunity to millions of children worldwide,” – Don Wilson

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., January 20, 2006 – The Independent Business Owners Association International and its members, Quixtar Independent Business Owners (IBOs) believe in helping people live better lives through a business of their own and by giving back to their communities. “In addition to supporting Easter Seals and the U.S. Dream Academy through Quixtar’s One-by One-Campaign for Children, IBOs support such causes as orphanages in Africa to the communities impacted by hurricane Katrina to children living in poverty here in the United States,” says Don Wilson – Board Vice Chairman.
“IBOAI Board members Jody Victor and Billy Florence serve on the Board of the U.S. Dream Academy,” says Don Wilson. Through innovative academic enrichment and mentoring, the U.S. Dream Academy is working to build the dreams of the children of prisoners and those failing in school; and to provide the tools that they need to achieve their dreams.
“Angelo Nardone, a member of the IBOAI Board of Directors Executive Committee, supports Easter Seals,” continues Don Wilson. Through the years Angelo Nardone and IBOs in his organization have raised more than a million dollars for Easter Seals by holding fundraisers, golf outings, raffles and more.
Fellow IBOAI Executive Committee member Randy Haugen and his team also support Easter Seals. “In December Quixtar IBOs Paul and Peggy Hirth and Patty and Mike Angelos presented their local Easter Seals with a check for $68,800. The money was raised through events including a hockey game between their team of IBOs and former Stanley Cup winning Philadelphia Fliers, an extremely popular golf tournament and by fielding a team of IBOs to walk in the Easter Seals Philadelphia Walk With Me event,” explains Randy Haugen.
“Terry Felber, also an Executive Committee member, donates time and money to World Vision, a Christian Relief organization and to Teen Challenge in Fort Myers, Florida. Teen Challenge provides services to teens and young adults who’ve struggled with alcohol and drug addiction,” says Don Wilson.
“Children are at the core of many of our member’s charitable activities,” adds Don Wilson. “Board member Chuck Goetschel and his wife Colleen actively support the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, a premier resource for pediatric health care, as well as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital where no one pays for treatment.”
“When the tsunami devastated Southeast Asia and the hurricanes hit the Gulf States, IBOs responded through contributions to charities such as World Serve, World Vision, International Aid and the American Red Cross,” says Wilson. “Helping others is a fundamental value of IBOAI and Independent Business Owners everywhere. We’re blessed to be able to share our time, our talents and our hearts.”
