Texas Homeowners should insist IAQ Consultants utilize TX DOH Licensed Mold Laboratories

Mold has been a prominent issue in residential and commercial buildings across the state of Texas for many years. In fact a home in Texas in the late 90s that was featured on the television program 60 Minutes is even created by some for dramatically increasing public awareness of indoor air quality (IAQ) issues related to mold contamination.

As mold problems came to light across the country and Texas, the state quickly had some of the highest levels of mold testing and remediation services occurring across the country. In response to the increase in mold related work the Texas Department of Health (TX DOH) began offering licensing to laboratories involved with analyzing mold samples to help ensure quality.

The stamp of approval from the Texas Department of Health is an important issue that all Texas property owners should be aware of and demand that any IAQ professionals they hire utilize a TX DOH licensed laboratory. Property owners should also be aware that many IAQ professionals in Texas are also regulated under the Texas Mold Assessment and Remediation Rules that went into effect in 2004. There was a temporary suspension of these requirements after Hurricane Ike that has since expired as of early November.
