House and Garden TV (HGTV) producer Anna Chai researches hundreds of new home products a year for potential exposure on the popular show, I Want That! When the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm arrived in her office for review, Chai knew they had a valuable find for the millions of homeowners who care about home and family safety. I Want That! spotlights the latest and greatest innovations for the home and will feature the smoke alarm device on a segment scheduled for January 18 at 8:30 p.m. EST.

“The alarm is one of the most exciting home technologies we will showcase this season,” said Chai. Her team worked quickly to find a family to take part in the feature. The piece was filmed in November at a consumer’s home in Bristow, Virginia. The segment features interviews with DuPont Consumer Safety Account Leader Debbra Johnson and the homeowner, a satisfied smoke alarm customer.

Currently available in the Home Depot stores in the United States, the smoke alarm runs off a home’s electricity. It is designed to detect smoke and fire in unprotected, at-risk areas such as laundry rooms, basements, furnace rooms and storage areas.

The smoke alarm features unique AngelEye™ technology with an internal self-charging power pack. The alarm screws directly into a light socket and recharges when the light is turned on. This innovative alarm only requires the light to be on for only two cumulative hours per week to remain fully charged and will operate for 30 days if the light is not turned on or if there is a power outage.
