Entrepreneur Draws on Extensive Buyer Comments to Grow Business from His Garage to $40 Million in Sales

SAN JOSE, Calif. - What does it feel like to have one million people tell you how well you’re doing your job? What about four million? One successful eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY) entrepreneur knows the answer to these questions first-hand. Jack Sheng, Founder and CEO of Eforcity, Inc., recently had all four of his eBay ID’s (everydaysource, itrimming , accstation and eforcity) surpass the one million Feedback milestone, marking the first time any single eBay User IDs have reached this volume of Feedback from transactions completed on the site.

To celebrate Sheng’s groundbreaking achievement, eBay is adding a new Feedback star to the site. Sheng will be the first seller to have the newly unveiled silver shooting star, denoting a Feedback score of 1,000,000 or more, appear next to his four user ID’s on eBay.com.

Jack Sheng’s eBay career began in his friend’s garage eight years ago. With a $500 investment, he and two of his childhood friends began selling tech gadgetry including cell phone and camera accessories. Two years later his focus shifted to building the Eforcity empire. In 2006, Inc. magazine named Eforcity Corp. the 90th fastest-growing company in the United States on the famous “Inc. 500” list. Today, Eforcity, based in El Monte, CA, is one of the largest eBay retailers for high tech gadgets.

“Jack represents everything we believe about delivering amazing value to eBay buyers, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment with him,” said John Donahoe, eBay Inc. president and CEO. “That’s what makes this Feedback milestone so special for Jack and for us - millions of people have voted with their wallets. He’s an inspiration for entrepreneurs everywhere … we’re proud that eBay continues to provide economic opportunities for Jack and others like him around the world.”

Sheng began as a part-time seller and took advantage of eBay’s global marketplace to build a solid business that has thrived year over year. Today, Eforcity grosses annual revenue of more than $40 million, has nearly 170 employees, ships almost 30,000 orders per day, and has operations in Hong Kong and China. Eforcity offers a wide selection of cell phone, MP3, printer, digital camera, PDA, HDTV (HDMI Cable), and Bluetooth accessories.

“In just eight short years we have been able to grow our business from a mere idea into a reality that far exceeds our original expectations of success. We have achieved the American dream,” said Sheng. “Central to this success has been customer feedback. It has helped us evolve our business to meet our customers’ needs and stay one step ahead of the competition. Every small business owner should develop a system for collecting feedback from their clients. It can mean the difference between a $4 million business and a $40 million business.”

In addition to the new silver shooting star denoting a Feedback score of 1,000,000 or more, eBay has also created a new green shooting star to indicate a Feedback score of 500,000 to 999,999.

eBay pioneered the use of Feedback in 1996 as a simple and effective way for members to exchange experiences in an open forum. The Feedback system on eBay has always encouraged fair and honest transactions, and to this day, it serves as the most robust indicator to online shoppers of a seller’s reputation. At its core, eBay Feedback is a measure of trust and supports sellers who offer positive shopping experiences.

For each transaction that occurs on eBay, buyers can choose to leave sellers a positive, negative or neutral rating and a short comment. These ratings are used to determine Feedback Scores, which appear in parentheses next to the seller’s eBay User ID in the upper right-hand corner of each listing.
