Canon Eyecare Solutions Help Bring True High-Resolution Digital Imaging and Telemedicine Capabilities to the Physician’s Desktop

Atlanta.– At the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Annual Meeting, Canon U.S.A., Inc., will showcase its complete line of total digital imaging and workflow management solutions for eyecare professionals in booth #720 at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta (November 8th–11th ).

“Ever since developing the world’s first non-mydriatic retinal camera in 1976, Canon has been a pioneer and leader in the field of retinal imaging,” said Tsuneo Imai, senior director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A. “At AAO, ophthalmologists will witness how Canon strives to provide their practice with the latest digital imaging technology, helping them to provide quality care to their patients, as well as to efficiently operate their practices.”

Canon will demonstrate the synergy between the Company’s retinal camera systems and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) products from OPTOPOL Technology S.A. The SPOCT HR1 offers superior high resolution among available OCT systems, ultrahigh scanning speed to shorten data collection and improves comfort during the examination for both the patient and the operator. Also showcased, will be the SPOCT, which allows for non-invasive cross sectional imaging of the retina, while providing true, fast 3D-imaging. The automated perimeter PTS 10002 from OPTOPOL Technology S.A will also be featured. The PTS 1000 is a diagnostic instrument that offers precise and fast testing of the field of vision. It features a wide range of strategies and analysis tools combined with intuitive interface, providing retinal specialists with a powerful diagnostic tool.

Integrating Digital Imaging Technology and Workflow Management for the Ophthalmic World
Canon offers and markets a full line of digital imaging solutions for the ophthalmic world, including Non-Mydriatic and Mydriatic Retinal cameras, full auto-tonometer and full auto-ref keratometers and image management software, all of which will be on display at the show. The Canon product line includes:

# CF-1 Mydriatic Digital Retinal Camera – The CF-1 optical system achieves high-resolution diagnostic images and outstanding operability. When attached to a Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (sold separately), the CF-1 is capable of delivering clear and detailed diagnostic images for virtually immediate review. The CF-1 offers exceptional ease of use and an ergonomic, streamlined design helps to achieve improved operation by motorizing procedures usually performed by hand. All CF-1 functions are integrated into a single tabletop unit with a power supply built directly into the base. The new compact design allows for closer interaction with the patient and easier access to the patient’s eyes.
# CR-1 Non-Mydriatic Digital Retinal Camera – Introduced in April, the CR-1 features a redesigned optical system that achieves extremely detailed, high-resolution diagnostic images of the retina and enables a full 45-degree view angle. When attached to a Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (sold separately), which provides up to 10.1 million pixel resolution, the CR-1 is capable of delivering clear and detailed diagnostic images for virtually immediate review. The CR-1 integrates advanced specifications into an ergonomic unit, all of which have been designed for improved ease of use and comfort in a streamlined form. One-hand joystick operation and an illuminated operation panel enable easy one-handed operation in darkened rooms, while a shorter working distance allows for closer interaction with the patient and easier access to the patient’s eyes.
# RK-F1 Full Auto Ref-Keratometer – The RK-F1 Keratometer from Canon, inventor of the first Auto Ref-Keratometer, allows for extremely easy operation with full automatic alignment for refractometry and keratometry.
# TX-F Full Auto Tonometer – Using innovative Canon Full Automatic technology and its 3D tracking system, the TX-F Tonometer allows doctors to perform simple eye exams efficiently and reliably.
# Printing and Projector Solutions – In addition to its eyecare digital imaging and workflow management solutions, Canon will demonstrate select printing and projection solutions. Canon high-speed photo printers boast high-resolution, fast photo printing speeds and individual ink tanks to deliver professional performance ideal for printing retinal images for review. The flagship Canon REALiS SX7 projector with the brilliance and sharpness of LCOS technology, 4,000 ANSI lumens brightness and 1.7X Ultra-Wide Powered Zoom Lens with Autofocus, delivers exceptional image quality and color reproduction.
