OMV, central Europe’s leading oil and gas group, partners with Fujitsu Siemens Computers

Vienna/Munich, OMV AG, the leading oil and gas group in central Europe, has selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers as its premier technology partner – signing a contract for IT infrastructure and services across 30 countries.

In order to guarantee the future stability and robustness of its operations, OMV chose to invest in an upgrade to its IT infrastructure, which included placing management of its systems across 30 European countries into the hands of an IT services provider. Vienna-based OMV is one of Austria’s largest publicly-listed industrial companies , with group sales of more than EUR 20 billion in 2007, and a current market capitalization of around Euro 7 billion.

Having evaluated offers from major IT vendors, OMV chose Fujitsu Siemens Computers, entrusting its entire network of servers and the complete international coordination of its trade operations to the leading European IT Infrastructure provider.

Based exclusively on PRIMERGY from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, OMV’s new server portfolio ranges from single-processor machines in branch offices through to the latest-generation multi-core PRIMERGY BX series blades in data centers. Across the entire PRIMERGY range, the same family values shine through: those of high energy-efficiency, outstanding performance and simple operation.

OMV has also entrusted Fujitsu Siemens Computers with managing its extensive IT infrastructure, contracting with the company’s services arm to manage Service Level Agreements, all of which are discretely tailored in order to deliver the maximum value to OMV, based on individual usage and needs scenarios.

Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, comments: “The deal between OMV and Fujitsu Siemens Computers represents a truly European partnership. OMV selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers because of our IT competence as well as our flexibility to exactly meet their individual needs, coupled with the advantage of sharing a similar cultural background. We are able to support OMV in its important markets and flexibly tailor our processes precisely to their specific requirements.”

Johann Kandelsdorfer, Chief Information Officer at OMV, explains why the company selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers as its technology partner: “The most-important factors in making this decision were flexibility, efficiency and the company’s ability to empathize with the customer. We wanted a provider that could guarantee efficient, reliable and cost-effective business process operations in over 30 countries. Fujitsu Siemens Computers, with whom we had already enjoyed a long-standing partnership, was unmatched in being able to completely fulfill these conditions.”
