Coastal Training Technologies of Virginia Beach, Va., recently acquired by DuPont, has been recognized by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine with the annual Commonwealth of Virginia Compass Award for Excellence in International Trade. The award, which acknowledges Virginia businesses that have excelled in global trade, was presented last month at the World Trade Conference held in Norfolk, Va.

“Coastal has a global workforce and a global customer base, so this award is very meaningful to us,” said Coastal CEO Paul Michels. “I’m also excited that the state has recognized a company that exports intellectual property.”

Last month, DuPont announced that Coastal would become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, and a part of DuPont Safety Resources. In addition to its Virginia Beach headquarters, it also has offices in Mexico, Europe, Brazil, India and the Philippines.

“We congratulate Paul and the Coastal employees on receiving the award,” said Jim Weigand, vice president and general manager, DuPont Safety Resources. “DuPont places high value on serving the communities where we do business. Through its global business reach, Coastal has become an important part of both the Virginia Beach and Commonwealth of Virginia business communities.”
