The fall racing season runs from October through April and includes some of the finest jockeys and horses in the world. In addition to their regular rotation of races, this year, the track announced the addition of the Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes, which will be held on the 18th of March, 2009. This is a rare opportunity for fans in the United Kingdom to take part in the historic Kentucky Derby. This new partnership between Churchill Downs and Kempton Park has been well received by fans and horse enthusiasts alike.

Amy Starkey, Managing Director of Kempton Park Racecourse commented, “Kempton Park is delighted to be in partnership with Churchill Downs. The establishment of the Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes represents a fantastic opportunity to increase the international profile of Kempton as well as promoting the Kentucky Derby to European based owners and trainers. This exciting initiative is the culmination of considerable enterprise and hard work by our Director of Racing, Brian Clifford, together with John Smee from Jockey Club Racecourses. Thanks to their efforts, we are celebrating the launch of a unique partnership, one which will enable Kempton Park to take the spotlight under the floodlights in the build up to the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.”

Even though it may be the middle of horse racing season, fans of the track can enjoy the facilities at any time. Numerous events are held throughout the week, and the track facilities can also be rented for wedding venues, as well as special events such as Christmas parties. For those that can’t get enough of horse racing, the 2009 season looks to be one of the most exhilarating on record, and Kempton Park will be there to make the magic happen for fans across the UK.
