Best-in-Class Storage Virtualization and Enterprise Content Management Products Are Key Components That Enable Information Lifecycle Management

Hopkinton, Mass.-Wednesday, January 11, 2006, EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that two key products in EMC’s information lifecycle management (ILM) portfolio have been selected by the editors of InfoWorld Magazine for the “2006 Technology of the Year Awards.” EMC Invista™ was awarded “Best Storage Virtualization,” and the EMC Documentum® 5 Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform was named “Best Enterprise Content Management Solution.”

Both EMC products were recognized as part of InfoWorld’s annual Technology of the Year awards that honor the top technologies expected to affect IT in 2006. A complete list of winners can be found in the Jan. 2, 2006 print edition of InfoWorld, as well as at:

Introduced in May 2005 as a newly developed network storage virtualization solution for large enterprises, Invista was awarded “Best Storage Virtualization” technology by InfoWorld. According to editors, Invista “preserves investments in existing hardware without sacrificing manageability or performance.”† Part of the accolade is based on Invista achieving an “Excellent” rating in a May 16, 2005 product review administered by InfoWorld Test Center analysts. The full review can be found on at:

InfoWorld also named the Documentum 5 ECM platform “Best Enterprise Content Management Solution” for its “impressively unified approach to managing content creation, reuse, archiving, and disposal.”† The recognition is also based on an InfoWorld Test Center product review published in the magazine’s Jan. 9, 2006 edition and on at:

“This is well-deserved recognition for two superb EMC solutions,” said Dave DeWalt, President of EMC Software. “Both Invista and Documentum 5 are game-changing technologies that can deliver significant efficiencies for enterprises wishing to accelerate and empower their ILM strategies with best-in-class solutions.”

InfoWorld’s annual Technology of the Year Awards identify significant technologies of the past year that promise to make the greatest impact on enterprise IT strategies, and they honor the products that best exemplify the implementation of those technologies.

“Our annual awards highlight progress across nearly the entire enterprise IT landscape,” said Steve Fox, InfoWorld’s editor-in-chief. “InfoWorld’s 2006 Technology of the Year Award winners represent the best products defining, and often redefining, the role of IT and resulting business impact.”
