PFM controller family offers highly efficient solutions
E910.24/25/26 reduce number of external components
ELMOS Semiconductor AG introduces a DC/DC controller family based on PFM. The devices are ideal for applications with wide input and output range. Due to an advanced PFM control mechanism, the ICs combine a feature of PWM converters, excellent efficiency at high loads, with low standby currents at low loads. Using an automatic selection of switching frequency, this high efficiency is optimized over a wide range of the converter’s output.
It is characteristic of this controller family that a compensation network for the control loop is not required. As a result of this concept the number of outside components and the overall complexity can be reduced. At the same time, a high stability even during changed loads can be realized.
The basic version of this new family is the E910.26. This device contains a wide area SMPS. In addition to that, the E910.25 extends its functionality by a selectable switch-off in case of overload and short circuit. The highest level of integration and performance is provided by the E910.24. This third option allows for an increased on time of the FET to get more power in case of low input voltages.
The E910.24/25/26 family is aiming at applications like automotive, LED driving, short circuit protected SMPS as well as security systems. Due to an open topology low side driving concepts like step up, flyback and SEPIC can be realized.
