New CentricStor VT Disk Library Editions Provide Fast and Affordable Data Backup

Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers an economical solution for fast backup on disk with quick restore times

Fujitsu Siemens Computers presents its new CentricStor Virtual Tape Disk Library (VT DL) editions at Storage Networking World Europe (Frankfurt, October 27 through 29, 2008). The two virtual tape solutions are based on the unique CentricStor VT Version 4.0 dual-target concept, but are tailored as pure disk libraries for disk-to-disk backup. This means that now users who prefer not to employ physical tape storage for their data protection can enjoy the benefits of advanced CentricStorVT technology. The two new editions, the CentricStor VTA 500 DL Edition and the CentricStor VTA 1500 DL Edition, are available immediately from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and from a select group of the company’s channel partners. Pricing starts at € 90,000.

Intelligent Data Protection

The CentricStor VT DL editions are based on CentricStorVT technology and offer companies the significant advantages, including fast and easy backup and short data restore times. The editions are suitable for all open systems, certified for all leading backup applications and can be easily and seamlessly integrated into existing IT structures. The CentricStor VTA 500 DL edition has a storage capacity of up to 72 TB and the CentricStor VTA 1500 DL edition has up to 576 TB . Data compression makes it possible to use the available storage capacity even more effectively.

Redundant components also ensure that the new editions provide high system availability. In addition to existing maintenance services, Fujitsu Siemens Computers also offers proactive services such as live monitoring and health check to further increase the reliable operation of the solution.

Virtual Tape Without Limits

In the event that storage capacity on the hard disks runs short, a long-term archive should be configured and data backup must be transferred to magnetic tape to provide additional security. The editions are flexible and can be upgraded to accommodate changing customer requirements. To meet future data growth the solution’s disk capacity is highly scalable. As an optional upgrade, energy-saving and cost efficient tape storage can also be integrated into the backup process. As a result, users can expand the CentricStor VT DL editions to create an optimal disk-to-disk-to-tape environment so that they also can include physical tape storage for their data protection . The true tape virtualization option integrates the advantages of disk and tape in a single solution and makes it also possible to manage physical tape autonomously.
