Volunteers clean Locust Fork Oct. 10 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What: The third annual Locust Fork (Plant Miller) cleanup is Friday, Oct. 10 in West Jefferson. Volunteers with or without boats are encouraged to participate and will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Porter Road boat ramp. The cleanup will end at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Plant Miller employees, Alabama Power and FOX 6. In 2007, 25 volunteers removed about three tons of trash from the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign, have collected more than 9 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and southeast rivers since 2000. There are 28 cleanups planned through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile Rivers.
