Alcatel-Lucent’s Network Analyzer enhancements bring improved service quality to millions of IPTV & broadband subscribers worldwide

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that its 5530 Network Analyzer (NA) has evolved to become a single integrated testing solution for DSL-based broadband access networks. Enhancements include a customer care interface that enables service provider staff to provide immediate support when facing end-user issues, while the Dynamic Line Management (DLM) feature automatically sets digital subscriber lines (DSL) to work with their optimal parameters, resulting in a dramatic increase in stability and service quality.

With the introduction of triple play, the performance level required from DSL rises exponentially. Copper lines are pushed closer to their bit-rate limit as real-time services (such as video and voice) demand higher quality and greater stability. Lower quality loops can undoubtedly result in unstable DSL connections — causing severe service degradation and customer churn.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5530 Network Analyzer provides greater insight into DSL loop quality - so that problems can be avoided, anticipated or resolved quickly. As a result, it enables dramatic operational expenditure (OPEX) reductions of up to 70 percent - by supporting more appropriate service rollout decisions, streamlined service delivery, improved service quality, reduced service downtime and faster problem resolution. The new customer care capabilities reduce problem resolution time and avoid systematic escalation to expert technicians when faulty access loops are detected. The DLM functionality is key for a successful delivery of qualitative IPTV services.

Launched in May 2004 for the ETSI market and in June 2006 for the North American market, the product now has more than 25 million digital subscriber lines under management. The Network Analyzer has been successfully introduced at more than 50 service providers around the world – publicly announced references which include KPN, Telstra, SingTel, TNZ, Iceland Telecom, Algeria Telecom, Kazakhtelecom, Tunisie Telecom, and Shaanxi Telecom. The 5530 Network Analyzer supports both Alcatel-Lucent and third party digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs).

“The continued market traction of Alcatel-Lucent’s 5530 Network Analyzer confirms our long-standing leadership and innovation spirit in fixed broadband access,” says Luis Martinez Amago, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s fixed access activities. “Not only do we deliver the best-in-class network elements, but we are also the industry’s unmatched experts in the development of software-based solutions that help service providers manage their DSL infrastructure in such a way that service requirements can be met throughout all stages of the services’ roll-out.”

With more than 200 customers are deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) product portfolio, including 80% of the top-20 DSL operators in the world, and having shipped more than 173 million DSL lines to date, Alcatel-Lucent continues to be the undisputed leader in DSL. Alcatel-Lucent brings its customers the strongest portfolio in all access segments, ongoing investment in innovation and technology, business consultancy programs, and an unparalleled experience in supporting large, complex end-to-end deployments.
