iLocus announces Voice 2.0 Summit

iLocus, a leading market research group tracking emerging communications segments, today announced Voice 2.0 Summit, a premium industry event for telecom professionals transforming voice communications. The Summit will be held on the 3rd of December 2008 in London.

Despite numerous direct-to-consumer offerings out there in the market, operators remain the biggest and the best Voice 2.0 delivery channel. Indeed a large proportion of Voice 2.0 companies have tried to sell their solution as a platform to operators in the first instance. There has also been a lot of Voice 2.0 activity going on over the last 12 months inside wireline and wireless operators. These operators are keen to grasp this new development and explore strategies to forge meaningful partnerships with developers of new VoIP Web mashups. The industry requires a forum that fosters partnerships between operators, Voice 2.0 platform companies, and Voice 2.0 developers.

Voice 2.0 Summit aims to facilitate such partnerships among various stake holders.

BT’s high profile Voice 2.0 program, the Web21C, and its acquisition of Ribbit are indicative of the nature of partnerships to come. Majority of the large operators have Voice 2.0 projects in the pipeline.

There is currently no forum out there that promotes partnerships among the three main parties in Voice 2.0: the operators, developers, and platform providers. “My personal belief is that Voice 2.0 startups alone will not re-invent voice communication. Viral marketing alone will not suffice, no matter how innovative the services. For an efficient distribution of new services and adequate monetization of those services, the industry requires partnerships among all three parties: the operators, developers, and platform providers,” said Jahangir Raina, Director, iLocus.

Forging those partnerships is the main purpose of iLocus’ Voice 2.0 Summit to be held on 3rd December 2008 in London. Details on the event can be found at http://www.ilocus.com/voice2summit08.htm

Registration for the Summit starts on October 15th (2008). Confirmed speakers so far include representatives from Telefonica, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, OpenSER/Kamailio, NMS Communications, The Thomas Howe Company, Huawei, SpinVox, Voodoovox, Nimbuzz, XConnect, iSkoot, EQO, Vivox, Sylantro, Adobe Systems.
