Ixia to Provide IP Testing Horsepower in the Largest Public Carrier Ethernet Interoperability Test

CALABASAS, Calif. – Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP performance test systems, will participate in the world’s largest and most advanced live, public Carrier Ethernet multi-vendor interoperability showcase at the Carrier Ethernet World Forum (CEWC), Sept. 22-26 in Berlin. The showcase is sponsored by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC). Ixia played a principal role in testing Carrier Ethernet protocols for many of the 28 vendors and 100 devices in the showcase.

Carrier Ethernet advances allow service providers to deliver high-bandwidth services, including IPTV, peer-to-peer and enterprise applications confidently over Ethernet. The vendors participating in the interoperability test event represent more than 90 percent of the Carrier Ethernet switch and router market share worldwide.

“Carrier Ethernet has grown up. In our fourth interoperability event since 2005, a larger number of vendors than ever before showed flawless interoperability of all established services, proving that it is safe for network operators to deploy multi-vendor Carrier Ethernet networks for business and residential services today,” said Carsten Rossenhoevel, Managing Director at EANTC.

Ixia’s IxNetwork™ application, XM2 chassis and XMV16 load module were used in the test. IxNetwork was used to test PBB-TE, TMPLS, VPLS, service OAM, link OAM, BFD and LACP protocols. Test specifications were designed to cover the latest IEEE, IETF, ITU-T, and MEF specifications for Carrier Ethernet services. IPTV, gaming services and end-to-end measurements were set up to verify that Carrier Ethernet-based networks can handle real, high-quality end-user applications.

“The maturity of Carrier Ethernet was quite evident during the testing,” said Vic Alston, senior vice president, Product Development, Ixia. “MPLS, PBB-TE and T-MPLS all proved their viability as Carrier Ethernet transport technologies for metro/aggregation networks — and Ixia’s solutions played a major role in validating them.”
