40 million euro orders for eco-friendly propulsion

WEBWIRE

Gouda - Imtech (technical services provider in Europe and the global marine market) announces that it has been commissioned to provide the eco-friendly diesel-electric propulsion, including the relevant solutions, on board two offshore construction vessels and a luxury mega yacht. The orders were secured by Imtech Marine Group and the total value amounts to almost 40 million euro. The Imtech technology will lead to significant reductions in fuel consumption and environmentally harmful emissions.

Unique multifunctional offshore construction vessel
Imtech has received an order from the Romanian GSP Drilling for the electric-diesel propulsion with energy generation and distribution on board the offshore construction vessel ‘Titan’. The vessel is unique in its kind as it is capable of performing no less than three functions: laying deep-sea pipes on the ocean, lifting entire oil and gas platforms or parts of these and providing assistance during oil and gas drilling efforts. Imtech will also realise a dynamic positioning system that makes accurate manoeuvring of the vessel possible in all weather conditions. Imtech will also be responsible for vessel management system. The offshore construction vessel will be built at the Keppel shipyard in Singapore.

High-tech rock dumping vessel
Tideway, the offshore specialist within the Belgian DEME (Dredging, Environmental & Marine Engineering), has commissioned Imtech to provide the diesel-electric propulsion with energy generation and distribution on board a high-tech fallpipe rockdumping vessel. This is a special ship that can accurately cover oil and gas pipelines installed thousands of metres under deep-sea water with a layer of rocks to embed them in the ocean floor. The vessel will also be equipped with a dynamic positioning system. The rockdumping vessel will be constructed at the Sembawang shipyard in Singapore.

Luxury mega yacht
Imtech has received an order from a shipyard in the Middle East to provide the diesel/electric propulsion with energy generation and distribution, including the platform automation and a high-tech digital ship’s bridge, on board a luxury mega yacht with a length of 85 metres.

Advantages of diesel-electric propulsion
The growing demands for the performance of vessels are resulting in a substantial increase of the technological component on board. Imtech is one of the few market parties able to offer total solutions in this regard. Furthermore, vessels are facing increasingly strict environmental requirements in the form of low CO2 (carbon dioxide) and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) emissions. Equipping ships with innovative eco-friendly diesel-electric propulsion makes efficient electric energy generation possible and allows Imtech to realise a significant reduction in fuel consumption (between 10 and 20%) and environmentally harmful emissions (between 15 and 20%). Additionally, ships which are equipped with this kind of technology are more manoeuvrable and produce less vibrations on board resulting in less noise pollution. All ships will be operational in 2011.
