Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation, HP and Employees Will Donate Up to $1.2 Million to Hurricane-relief Efforts

PALO ALTO, Calif., HP today announced that the Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation has made a cash grant of $500,000 to the American Red Crossnon-hp site “Hurricanes of 2008,” supporting efforts to bring relief to those affected by this year’s hurricane season, including Hurricane Ike, which has left thousands in Texas and Louisiana without access to food, fuel or electricity.

The Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation also will match up to $250,000 in U.S. employee contributions to organizations assisting directly with hurricane relief efforts.

Separately, HP donated notebooks valued at approximately $200,000 to the Greater Houston Area Red Cross. The notebooks will help Red Cross personnel manage relief and recovery efforts throughout the hurricane-affected region. HP also is helping to match volunteers with specific skills to relief organizations seeking those skills.

“The Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation, HP and HP employees have a long legacy of helping those in need,” said Marcela Perez de Alonso, chairman of the Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation Board and executive vice president of Human Resources, HP. “This commitment in cash and employee matching to organizations like the American Red Cross, as well as the donations of HP technology, will help manage relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike’s devastation.”

The challenge of bringing food, equipment and electricity to those affected by Hurricane Ike is immense, and HP encourages other companies and organizations to contribute to disaster relief efforts.
