New Version of Industry-Leading Degaussing Solution Erases Information Three Times Faster than Previous Editions; Fujitsu to Demonstrate Mag EraSURE ME-P3 Version 2 at ASIS International 2008

Sunnyvale, CA. — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced Mag EraSURE ME-P3 Version 2, Fujitsu’s latest secure degaussing solution for the permanent erasure of all magnetically recorded data on hard disk drives (HDDs) and other storage devices. Mag EraSURE ME-P3 Version 2 completely erases sensitive data embedded several layers down that might not have been deleted using conventional methods, on hard disk drives, tapes and other magnetically recorded media, in just 15 seconds—a speed three times faster than earlier models—and adds support for the VHS tape format. Fujitsu and Security Engineered Machinery (SEM), Fujitsu’s government distributor of Mag EraSURE, will display the new product at SEM’s booth (#2218) at ASIS International 2008, September 15-18 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

“Properly disposing of information is critical for government agencies and commercial organizations across all industries,” said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “Fujitsu’s latest version of Mag EraSURE will provide our distributors with a top-notch secure data disposal product for their customers that will help to meet security and compliance requirements.”

Fujitsu’s Mag EraSURE utilizes patented rare-earth magnet technology to permanently degauss magnetically recorded information. It enables customers to degauss large quantities of HDDs and other back up tapes to help properly dispose of sensitive data and comply with HIPAA, SOX, PCI DSS and other regulations. In addition to offering degaussing speeds unmatched by any other solution available today, ME-P3 Version 2 decreases cycle times even further by eliminating the need for customers to remove the drive from its canister before degaussing it. The new version is also 30 percent smaller and 22 percent lighter than previous editions, providing customers with a superior solution in a more compact form factor. Fujitsu’s Mag EraSURE ME-P3 product portfolio meets Department of Defense requirements for destroying magnetically recorded data, and the ME-P3 is listed on the National Security Agency’s Evaluated Products List: NSA/CSS EPL-9-12.

“In the current market environment of heavily regulated compliance initiatives, both commercial enterprises and government agencies recognize the importance of adhering to these requirements and making sure data is properly disposed,” said Peter Dempsey, president, SEM. “Fujitsu’s Mag EraSURE continues to enable our customers to eradicate sensitive data, helping them to comply with these regulations and ensure that their highly-sensitive data is not used for malicious purposes. Many of our customers need to degauss 500-1,000 drives every day, so the reduced cycle times offered in this newest version of Mag EraSURE will greatly improve operational efficiency and reduce cost. We anticipate rapid adoption as we help Fujitsu bring this new product to market.”
