EcoVision – the world’s most environmentally friendly halogen car headlight for reducing energy consumption, CO2 emissions and costs

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) today announced a number of compelling solutions for the automotive aftermarket at the Automechanika fair in Frankfurt, Germany. The range includes EcoVision, the world’s most energy-efficient car head lighting that will help meet the challenge of reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Rising fuel prices and protecting the environment are two big issues facing the automotive industry and consumers today. In the automotive sector, CO2 emissions due to transport and motor vehicles represent more than 28% of the global CO2 emissions. Car makers are responding to these challenges, and Philips, the world leader in automotive lighting solutions, is addressing this particular issue with new innovative solutions.

Philips EcoVision car head lighting has been designed to significantly reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as costs, while improving the road lighting performance. The EcoVision headlamp consumes 20% less energy, lasts about 50,000 km, which is twice as long as a standard car headlamp, and provides 10% more light. If everyone switched to EcoVision, we could save each year up to 6 million tonnes of CO2, which is the equivalent of roughly 6 power plants.

Other innovations from Philips include:

* Xenon UltraBlue, which is the first Xenon performance and style upgrade. The blue color of the light produces a color temperature of 6000K, illuminating signs and roadside objects much better than standard bulbs, offering the ultimate in safety and style.
* MasterDuty Blue Vision: the 24V version of the 12V Xenon headlamp offers the Xenon performance and style also to truck and bus drivers. They can customize their vehicles with the vibration-resistant look and feel of a Xenon lamp.
* XPMoto is a uniquely designed headlamp for a maximum motorcycle racing performance, featuring the award-winning Xtreme Power technology from Philips. It produces 80% more light on the road compared to standard bulbs, creating much better visibility during night-time riding.

These four new lighting solutions for the automotive replacement market perfectly reflect Philips’ ongoing commitment to its long tradition of innovation and sustainability.
