Hurricane Ike Leaves a Wake of Destruction and Mold across Texas

Hurricane Ike caused devastation to Galveston, Houston and the surrounding region over the weekend leaving behind 28 deaths and untold destruction to property. Residents who did not flee before the storms are now being evacuated due to the destruction and lack of city services such as power and emergency response.

Throughout the region storm surges and torrential rainfall and winds have caused many areas to remain flooded. Many property owners will have to wait several more days before they come home to assess their damaged properties.

Many homes that survived intact were flooded by several feet of water and thousands of damaged roofs allowed wind driven rain to soak the structures they once kept dry. When residents do return home the flood cleanup will also have concerns about contamination from sewage, chemicals and mold growth in the wet homes and offices.
