Statement on Hurricane Ike
We continue to monitor the impact of tropical storm Ike. As always, the safety and security of our guests and associates is a top priority. We are working closely with authorities and our local hotel management teams throughout Texas and other areas affected by the storm. We express our appreciation to local police, emergency responders and other officials, many of whom weathered the storm in our hotels. |
Marriott’s hotels in the Galveston and Houston areas have come through the storm with no reports of injuries to guests or associates. Many hotels are open, and efforts are underway to fully restore operations in those affected by the hurricane. We are still assessing the extent of weather damage on the hotels. Most of the hotels that housed guests through the storm have essential utilities or are using generator power, if needed. Early reports indicate damage to some rooftops and windows, as well as the landscaping. As services are being restored in the area over the next few days there may be temporary interruptions or limited availability of some guest services, such as limited restaurant menus and housekeeping services.
Marriott representatives have been contacting groups and individual guests with existing reservations to keep them informed of the status of the hotels. Where possible, reservations are being rescheduled for a later arrival or made for a stay at another Marriott hotel. Guests with confirmed reservations for an arrival date of Sunday, September 14, and beyond should contact the hotel directly or our toll-free reservations number at (888) 236-2427; group customers may call (800) 413-0902.
As the area recovers from impact of the storm, the Galveston and Houston area hotels are not accepting new reservations until further notice. Each hotel is assessing their readiness to accept new reservations and reservations will be re-opened as soon as possible. We are partnering with corporations and organizations requiring blocks of hotel rooms for the recovery process in Houston and other affected areas. We are accepting reservations and have rooms available in Dallas and other areas of Texas.
