LONGMONT, CO, January 2, 2006 — Cornice Inc. —an innovator in consumer storage solutions — today announced Samsung has included the 3.0-gigabyte Storage Element (SE) in the production of its SGH-i300 embedded music smartphone. The phone was announced during CeBIT 2005 and is available on retail shelves for European customers as of November 2005. This phone is aimed at bringing audio, video, personal storage, and traditional voice communications together in one device. Cornice will provide for Samsung’s line of high storage capacity mobile phones. Previous models include the SPH-V5400, with a 1.5-gigabyte Cornice SE, and the SPH-V7900 video camera phone, with a 3.0-gigabyte Cornice SE.

Samsung and Cornice have created a partnership to serve the developing converged mobile phone market. This collaboration has resulted in three generations of HDD-based phones and a significant lead for both Samsung and Cornice in the market.

“The Samsung i300 represents the beginning of a new generation of phones designed to bring a unique user experience to the cellular market,” said Kevin Magenis, chief marketing officer and co-founder at Cornice. “One device is now capable of replacing a standard phone, a digital still camera, a digital video camera, an MP3 jukebox, a PDA, and a USB personal storage stick – all in a familiar and comfortable hand-held phone form factor. As a primary focus market for Cornice, we are leading the way in both feature innovation and system level integration for next generation mobile phone products.”

Cornice’s storage is a natural fit for the mobile phone market, offering both the thinnest available storage solution, which is important for compact-sized mobile phones, and the extreme durability of Crash GuardTM technology, which is crucial to the consumer. The Cornice SE is able to withstand even the most extreme abuses of the mobile phone environment, such as accidental drops or excessive physical activities, without skipping, stopping or corrupting data.

Samsung’s SGH-i300 is capable of storing up to 1,000 music files, plus all your personal data using Samsung’s unique ‘Plug & Play Files-to-go’ feature, which also allows the phone to function as a storage device. Consumers can easily transfer files to and from their computers, as well as store files in any format on the phone through a USB 2.0 port. The i300 is based on the Windows Mobile operating system, which enables users to download music from online music services and from OTA music services provided by mobile operators. It also features 3D sound, a 1.3 mega-pixel camera, video recording and messaging, and a Bluetooth stereo headset connection.

Samsung, which captured 13.8 percent of the world’s 2004 mobile phone market share according to In-Stat, is the leading innovator in the high-capacity mobile phone market. To date, Samsung is the only mobile phone provider to launch hard drive-based mobile phones into the market, which is projected by Gartner Dataquest to reach more than 28 million units worldwide in 2007.
