Ziggo Selects Motorola Video Server to Power HD Video-on-Demand Service

Basingstoke, UK. – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Ziggo, the Netherlands’ largest cable service provider, has selected Motorola’s on-demand platform to deliver Ziggo’s High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) video-on-demand service. The service launched commercially in the former Casema network in the second quarter of 2008, and services will be expanded into the wider Ziggo network before the end of the year.

The Motorola B-1™ Video Server and Stream Commander™ management software enable Ziggo’s customers touch-button access to thousands of programs, such as movies, children’s programs, documentaries and music clips, and support the planned rollout of HD content. Motorola’s on-demand solution has now been selected by European operators that pass more than eight million homes.

“Consumers are becoming far more demanding in the way they watch television; they want the option and ability to access their content in their own time,’” said Joe Cozzolino, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility, EMEA. “Through Motorola’s leadership in video, we are enabling Ziggo to accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences to its customers. High definition is also a compelling proposition that can help Ziggo to reduce churn and increase revenue.”

The market-proven Motorola video solution represents the critical on-demand element, enabling enhanced services and the ability to rapidly adapt to changing consumer demand. By separating storage from streaming, the Motorola B-1 video servers allow Ziggo to independently scale content libraries and streaming resources at a fraction of the operational costs of legacy servers. The solid-state Motorola server provides an extremely high-performance, scalable and reliable solution for video on-demand and an open platform for advanced, on-demand services such as Time-Shifted TV, nDVR and on-demand ad insertion.
