Camp Hill, PA . - California residents can realize significant savings on more than 10,000 prescription drugs with the free Rite Aid RX Savings Card just made available at Rite Aid drugstores across the state and soon to be offered at all Rite Aid stores across the country. The card, which requires no membership fee and is free to anyone who enrolls, also provides an immediate discount on more than 3,200 Rite Aid brand products, including 1,500 over-the-counter medications.

“The Rite Aid RX Savings Card has been so successful in Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia that we will expand the program nationwide later this month,” said Bill Wolfe, Rite Aid group vice president, pharmacy. “Residents in those states really embraced the card and in only a few months have saved over $2.5 million on their prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines and Rite Aid brand items. We’re seeing a similar response in California in just the few days since the card was made available.”

Cards can be obtained at any of the more than 600 Rite Aid stores in California. Card benefits are effective as soon as the application is completed and turned into a Rite Aid pharmacy. Benefits of the free card include:

Access to more than 400 generic medications at $8.99 for a 30-day supply and $15.99 for a 90-day supply for each prescription;

* A 20% discount on all other generic medications and brand drug prescriptions;
* A 30-day supply of select generic oral contraceptives for $19.99; and
* A 10% savings on more than 3,200 Rite Aid brand products, which include more than 1,500 over-the-counter medications

The Rite Aid RX Savings Card will especially benefit residents who have no or limited prescription insurance. Others who will find particular benefit from the card are those whose prescription plan does not cover certain drugs or who have reached their benefit limits. (Persons receiving benefits from publicly funded health care programs are ineligible.)

Nearly one in five Californians are without health insurance, even though many are steadily employed. Combine that with the high cost of living, and there is a serious need for a card like this to help people take care of themselves and their families,“ said Wolfe. ”That’s why our list of 30 and 90 day generics at $8.99 and $15.99 cuts across most therapeutic categories and includes some of the most widely used generic drugs such as amlodipine/simvastatin to treat cardiovascular conditions, loratadine for allergies, ranitadine for gastrointestinal conditions, and sertraline which is an antidepressant"

Customers can get a list of the medications covered by the Rite Aid RX Savings Card at any Rite Aid pharmacy in California. The card can be used for prescriptions for any member in a family, including pets, but cannot be used in conjunction with prescription insurance.

This is just one of several ways Rite Aid is trying to help its customers, Wolfe said. The company launched a nationwide “Fill Up and Fuel Up” program in June that offers customers who transfer their prescriptions to Rite Aid a $30 Rite Aid gift card immediately and the chance to win a year’s worth of free gas valued at $2,600. Customers continue to be eligible for weekly chainwide drawings for a year’s worth of free gas through Jan. 10, 2009, as long as their transferred prescriptions stay with Rite Aid. Information on the sweepstakes is available in the Rite Aid weekly circulars or by asking Rite Aid pharmacists. Details also are available at www.riteaid.com.
