Global leader in Web content acceleration and application performance solutions appoints industry veteran Chung Yun Yeon to lead market development

SEOUL, KOREA .- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader in powering rich media, dynamic transactions and enterprise applications online, today announced the opening of the Seoul, Korea office of its subsidiary, Akamai Technologies YH, to offer in-country support to Korean companies and brands leveraging the Internet. Having worked with Korean companies for the past four years via a reseller partnership with Samsung Networks, Akamai will now have a direct presence in Korea to continue to help its customers expand globally and enhance their online business models.

Local industry veteran, Chung Yun Yeon, will lead Akamai’s market development and expansion program for the new Seoul office. Chung has over twenty years experience in enterprise sales including leadership positions in major multinational corporations in the IT and telecommunications sectors.

“Backed by a very strong and tech-savvy domestic economy, leading Korean brands are rapidly achieving international recognition in global markets,” said Robert Hughes, executive vice president of global sales, services and marketing for Akamai. “As more Korean companies expand beyond their home market by leveraging the Internet, Akamai has seen increasing demand for its services to provide unrivalled reliability and scalability in delivering and accelerating content, applications and transactions to globally-distributed consumers and users.”

Korea is Asia’s leading country for broadband adoption with over 70 percent penetration of population, and tops the list of countries with the greatest levels of high broadband (5 Mbps) connectivity1. Within this highly Internet-enabled economy, Akamai’s business in Korea has grown seven-fold in just the last four years. The new Seoul office is set up to support, sustain and accelerate this growth momentum.

Some of Akamai’s Korean customers include:

* Samsung Electronics - a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunications, digital media and digital convergence technology
* Ahnlab Inc. - Korea’s largest security provider, offering the V3 product family which has become an industry-standard for information protection
* NHN Corporation - Korea’s premier Internet company, operating the nation’s top search portal, Naver; the leading online game portal Hangame; and the nation’s largest children’s portal, Jr.Naver
* Nexon - a pioneer of interactive entertainment software and a leader in massively multiplayer online games
* Daum - one of the largest Internet portal services in Korea

“Akamai is firmly committed to helping Korean brands grow their businesses globally by providing solutions that enable them to deliver and accelerate dynamic content, video streaming, enterprise applications, and real-time transactions for a global market, all while saving on infrastructure costs and achieving faster time to market,” said Stuart Spiteri, director of Asia Pacific for Akamai.

In particular, Akamai’s Application Performance Solutions - enabling global businesses to accelerate critical enterprise applications across the Internet - will give Korean brands a distinct competitive edge in the global marketplace. As businesses increasingly rely on Web-enabled applications to facilitate interactions with customers, colleagues, employees, and partners in remote locations, Akamai’s unique managed services approach not only improves response times, it also ensures applications are up and running when business users need them most - anytime, anywhere.
