NEW YORK, -- BET’s top-rated music countdown show 106 & PARK and co-host Terrence will broadcast live at 6:00 PM* on Thursday, August 28 from the Community College of Aurora’s CentreTech campus in Denver during the Democratic National Convention in an effort to encourage young people to register to vote. With co-host Terrence live from Denver and co- host Rocsi in the studio, 106 & PARK will be urging young people to register online all week and registering audience members in the studio.
In addition to its live television coverage, 106 & PARK’s online social community 106 & PARK CONNECT will be asking viewers to upload their own videos to the site, proclaiming that they have registered to vote.
“106 & PARK has a strong and unique relationship with our audience,” said Stephen G. Hill, Executive Vice President, Music Programming & Talent, BET. “The show has always been about more than music; it’s also about issues and events important in their worlds from Jena 6 to the Sean Bell case to the current exciting political season. The 106 & PARK audience is poised to make the difference in this election, and we’re going to do everything we can to remind them of that and encourage their self-empowerment through registration and voting.”
106 & PARK’s coverage of the DNC is part of BET’s BE HEARD voter awareness initiative to spur African-American youths’ participation in this year’s presidential election. Terrence and 106 & PARK will also be stopping in Detroit at Wayne State University on Friday, August 29 to encourage voter registration in the battleground state of Michigan.
