Iceland’s biggest music festival scheduled for October
As Reykjavik braces itself for the annual Iceland Airwaves music extravaganza, Icelandic carrier Icelandair is offering special package deals from 877 USD or 299 GBP per person.
Since its debut in an aircraft hangar in 1999, Iceland Airwaves has become one of the premier showcases for new music – Icelandic and otherwise – in the world. It’s been called “the most innovative music festival since CMJ” (the New York festival spinoff of CMJ Magazine) and ”as responsible for all of Reykjavik’s recent positive press as Bjork herself.”
And there’s more to Airwaves than just the music. Reykjavik is possibly the perfect festival city: small enough to be welcoming and sophisticated enough to offer cultural, historical and nightlife diversions to rival cities ten times its size.
Reykjavik is also surrounded by some of the most unique and astonishing natural beauty found on the planet. Hop on a bus and you’re soon looking at geysers, waterfalls, lava fields – all the best a volcanic island has to offer.
Other volcanic highlights include the world-famous Blue Lagoon; favourite soaking spot of the international hung-over glitterati and scene of Iceland Airwaves’ very own private hangover party.
With inclusive package tours from major US, European and Canadian cities starting at less than you might expect to pay for flights to Iceland alone, getting neck-deep in one of the hottest, coolest music festivals anywhere is almost just a little too easy.
Icelandair, one of founders and main sponsors of Iceland Airwaves, has package deals which include transatlantic flights from an Icelandair gateway, two nights hotel accommodation, breakfast and an Airwaves Festival Pass.
Icelandair is the biggest airline in Iceland and connects Iceland with 24 of the top destinations in Europe and North America. Iceland Airwaves takes place between 15th and 19th October 2008.
