Alcatel-Lucent delivers always-on communications for Mont Blanc trail race through France, Italy and Switzerland

Alcatel-Lucent equipment is being used at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® headquarters in Chamonix and by over 1300 volunteers at 22 locations along the race route. Features include voice and web conferencing, document and application sharing, live and pre-recorded audio message delivery, emergency call routing, and toll-free numbers in the three countries crossed by the race.

Established in 2003, Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® is the worldwide off-road race summit, bringing thousands of runners and volunteers from all over the world to a rugged, 166 kilometer course that crosses France, Italy and Switzerland and includes an elevation rise of over 9400 meters. Managing such a complex event requires superb logistical support, and this year Alcatel-Lucent solutions will provide the real-time communication foundation required to simplify the event’s organization.

The Alcatel-Lucent My Teamwork solution provides Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® coordinators with voice and web conferencing with record/playback functionality, document and application sharing, and integrated email and calendaring capability. Live or pre-recorded voice messages will be delivered using the Alcatel-Lucent Automated Message Delivery System, which is being used for weather alerts and racer security and coordination. Emergency call routing, toll-free numbers, routing to groups from emergency units to catering, and setup using voice recognition in five languages will be provided by the Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch Contact Center Interactive Voice Response product. All of these products and solutions streamline knowledge sharing and increase the effectiveness of staff and volunteers.
