Brazil’s TV Anhanguera Launches HD Broadcast Operations with Harris Corporation’s End-to-End Integrated Solution

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces that Brazil’s TV Anhanguera Network has officially launched its central high-definition (HD) broadcast operation using a Harris end-to-end, HD broadcast solution. Harris equipment is also used for seven other TV Anhanguera station sites that plan to transition to HD at a future date.

A key component of the Harris solution at TV Anhanguera is the new ISDB-Tb transmission platform, which allows ISDB-Tb broadcasters to deliver digital TV, HDTV and mobile TV channels to consumer TV sets and mobile/handheld devices.

“We wanted to transition to a digital system in order to create new opportunities of optimization, reduce technical and operational risks and provide our viewers with consistently exceptional video and audio quality and to support our operational growth plans over the next 10 years,” said Leonel da Luz, director of technology at Organização Jaime Câmara — TV Anhanguera. “Because we are working with remote sites, different compression schemes, formats and applications, it was essential to find a system that would provide transparent integration, operational flexibility, quick and accurate monitoring and easy and efficient control. We knew we needed to work with a supplier with a proven commitment to interoperability among technologies and individual components - and Harris has fully demonstrated that commitment.”

TV Anhanguera Network’s main system in Goiânia comprises a Harris ONE™ solution to interoperability that is being adapted by broadcasters worldwide. In addition to the new ISDB-Tb transmission platform, the digital system includes three NEXIO™ server domains; ADC™ playout automation; the NetVX™ video networking system; Platinum™ 3 Gb/s routing switchers and Panacea™ small routers; RCP-IDe router control panels; IconMaster™ master control and branding; modular products from the 6800+™ core processing and NEO® advanced application processing platforms; the XHD-3903 3 Gb/s-ready HDTV converter; CENTRIO™ multiviewer; and NUCLEUS™ and CCS Navigator™ control and monitoring.

TV Anhanguera monitors its remote sites across a wide area network. The Harris system moves media and data between Goiânia and each of the seven remote sites across Goiás via automation. The majority of the system is controlled by one software application — Harris® CCS Navigator™ — including configuration and control of the Platinum router in Goiânia and remote control of the Panacea routing systems in each of the seven remote sites. The entire system is synchronized to a master timing generator via NTP for referencing of all applicable devices, as well as accurate logging and time stamping.

The TV Anhanguera network broadcasts to an audience throughout the Brazilian states of Goiás and Tocantins. The stations are members of the Globo Television Network, which provides its affiliates with national programming with time-slots available for them to air local content.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
